Bach, Tots and Tiptoes Playdate Program 2011

Performing Arts for our Youngest Arts Lovers

Call for Artists

Soulocentric Performing Arts Society is looking for artists to present short, 15 minute performances featuring a wide variety of genres for its upcoming program called Bach, Tots and Tiptoes. Pieces may showcase a variety of styles including, but not limited to:

  • classical ballet
  • contemporary or urban dance
  • dance from a variety of cultural backgrounds such as Irish, Indian, Ukrainian, African or Flamenco dance (for example)
  • classical music (instrumental or choral)
  • ethnic/world music
  • physical theatre
  • circus
  • clown
  • puppetry
  • interdisciplinary performance

We are primarily looking for solo or duet based performances. Remuneration starts at $50 per performance.

Performances will take place Tuesday & Wednesday mornings between 10-11 am. Artists will booked to perform 1-2 times between Sept. 20th and Dec 6th in Calgary (Evergreen Studios, Currie Barracks) and/or Cochrane (Cochrane Ranchehouse).

Artists will be performing for a family based audience of parents/caregivers with children aged 0-6. Pieces DO NOT have to specifically be “theatre for young audiences” but should be family friendly. Artists should be comfortable performing in a casual, intimate, flexible environment, tolerant of minor interruptions.

The objective of this program is to increase accessibility of the arts to the parent-tot demographic, expose them to a range of performing arts disciplines and foster an appreciation for the performing arts in both child and adults who attend. Artists are encouraged to showcase work from their current repertory and have lots of fun with this performance.

Interested applicants should email a bio or artistic CV, description of proposed performance, publicity photo or headshot (if available), and potential availability (for a Tues/Wed morning between Sept. 20th and Dec. 7th) to Jenny Repond Peters at artisticdirector@soulocentric.org.

More information about the program can be found at www.soulocentric.org or call Jenny at 403.971.0108 with queries/questions.

Deadline for Fall 2011 sessions is Aug 11, 2011. We do however accept submissions on an ongoing basis as we plan to run the program throughout the year as interest permits.
